Hi there, I was wondering if you would be able to make a video about body odor on a low fat raw vegan diet? There are not a lot of videos on that subject and I would enjoy to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks! :)

heidi Reply:

people don’t have any body odors when they eat strictly 811rv, so nothing more to say about this.

Karmyn Reply:

People eating strict 811rv do have less body odor but it’s not eliminated. They still STINK if they shower infrequently (I’ve been around many strict 811 people so I know). Personal hygiene is still important! :)

+1!

3000 calories a day minimum as a High carb vegan MUCH more if you’re active

One of the best vids from you, thanks for sharing :)

Can you talk about your stretch marks … pre raw to now

Wow. Thank you so much for sharing. This is really inspiring. I have a very slightly similar story and…. yeah. I would never be brave enough to put it out there like this, so… wow.

You are a beautiful advocate of the raw food way of life.

8 MsLi512 { 09.13.12 at 3:37 AM }

So happy that you overcame your food issues and eat a ridiculously healthy diet. I am a compulsive overeater and struggle with cravings big time when lfrv.

Great vid. It has been helping me too. Mine was calories restricted and working out. So far raw has been a great experience. I am new only on 1st month.

What Do You Mean This Banana Isn’t Vegan? Let us know what you think of this article.it is located at takepart dot com. It’s an article about a new preservative used to keep fruits fresher for another two weeks. It’s made from the shells of shrimp and crabs.

Oh my gosh Swayze!! This is so what I needed to hear!! I’ve been suffering w/anorexia and bulimia for 22 years. The fear of being fat takes my mind over endlessly. I KNOW that LFRV is the answer… I even fear eating all the fruit. This video is amazing!! How do you shut the voices out of ‘not being good enough if over weight’. The media is so triggering. I admire you!! And hope and pray I can get there too. Coming to you from Nashville…

Thank you so much swayze!

13 FitOnRaw { 09.13.12 at 11:51 AM }

Caloric needs vary from person to person. Even when I’m very active (vigorous workouts 2x a day), I don’t need 3000 calories (more like 2500). Normally, I eat about 2000.

14 FitOnRaw { 09.13.12 at 12:12 PM }

Focus on health instead of aesthetics. The best way to do this I’ve found is to focus on body fat and waist-to-height ratio (see my recent video for more info). If those two numbers are good, then that’s it! No more worrying about your weight! :)

15 EvilScaryGhost { 09.13.12 at 12:33 PM }

That’s extremely low for a High carb, low fat, vegan. Try eating much more and watch your energy go through the roof.It’s impossible to get fat on raw foods.

16 Ohkapi { 09.13.12 at 12:38 PM }

Thank you for sharing this experience you had. This is motivating

17 FitOnRaw { 09.13.12 at 12:49 PM }

You’re wrong. As I said in the video, I gained weight on low fat, high fruit when I was eating all I wanted (you can see this in some of my older videos). Once I substantially increased my vegetable intake, I no longer desired so much fruit and was able to lose the weight easily.

18 lizanne1100 { 09.13.12 at 1:50 PM }

Hmmm..your message is great, but it’s different to what I’ve been hearing about LFRV diet. I always thought that it’s difficult to gain weight on fruit.

19 EvilScaryGhost { 09.13.12 at 2:14 PM }

You come from a background of Anorexia as you said, just like Freelee did. She gained weight as well in the first couple years as her body recovered, and look at her now. You have to get past the recovery period and THEN you will be skinny FOREVER no matter how much fruit you eat. Seen it as well with my mom. As it is you are borderline starving being as active as you are and only eating 2000 calories a day. I eat 2000 calories in 1 meal, i’m 5’5 110 pounds. typically 5000 cals a day

20 FitOnRaw { 09.13.12 at 4:07 PM }

Look, I tried eating more calories on low fat, high fruit for over a year and I got fat. Period. More importantly, my digestion suffered majorly. My stomach was rumbly and gurgle-y throughout the day and uncomfortably distended. My blood pressure was also borderline high during this time. I look better AND feel better meeting my nutritional needs on less total calories.And I’m so sick of people telling me I’m “starving” myself eating 2000 calories a day. Do I look like I’m starving?

21 FitOnRaw { 09.13.12 at 4:09 PM }

It’s difficult, but not impossible. If you eat a lot of high-calorie fruits like dates and bananas, it’s fairly easy. If you come from a background of binge eating, it’s even easier.

22 EvilScaryGhost { 09.13.12 at 4:53 PM }

Bullshit. No one got fat on fruit. You might have gotten jiggly from lack of movement, but not FAT.

vegandaoist Reply:

eat 3 watermelons a day, 3600 calories, and no exercise, and see where you are in a couple of weeks. It’s just math.

23 VAmom1 { 09.14.12 at 11:21 AM }

I’m so glad you over came binging and purging. That is one reason I like raw food diet. If I am hungry I can eat.

24 VAmom1 { 09.14.12 at 11:26 AM }

I have found that if I eat more than 2000 calories a day I also gain weight. I am trying to lose weight currently. I have about 80 lbs more to go. I have lost 38 lbs so far. I focus instead, on not being hungry, and meeting my nutritional requirements in under 2000 calories right now. Once I have met my goal weight I might experiment with eating more but I’m sure I’ve messed up my metabolism over the years and I have a thyroid issue. I appreciate your honest videos!

Please don’t stop sharing your experience and making videos because of ridiculous insensitive comments. Some of us are encouraged by you.

thank you for sharing your experience with us, Swayze. Other rude comments that have been left here, I hope have not hurt you. They have no right to judge your experience, because they are not you. What you say is very helpful to others who may be going through a similar pattern and it is good for them to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Very inspiring xx

27 laurel { 09.19.12 at 7:14 AM }

Thankyou very much for posting this. I can definetly relate to your story. i have been trying the raw food way of life now for the past few weeks and feel so much better. Im still not completly healed since i still excersise alot and weigh myself every single morning. I hope to overcome these issues soon.

28 vegandaoist { 09.19.12 at 8:52 AM }

Anorexia and Bulemia can also emotional and psychological based. Do you feel that. You think the vitamin and mineral increases and balancing and non-starving and increased oxygen to the brain also balanced out your emotional and psycholoical state? what helped in your emotional and psychological transformation? thanks for sharing. You are brave and sincere.

29 heidi { 09.19.12 at 10:01 AM }

thats interesting in how you gained weight just eating pure fruits as harley (durainrider) says otherwise and has a reward of $10,000.00 to anyone who does, so send him your pictures and testimonial and collect your prize reward of $10,000.00 from him swayze and congratulations also on being the veryest first one also to have won this unusual hard to achieve reward (all said sincerely emphatically lovingly also atya) :)

vegandaoist Reply:

Hello. for clarification, I was underweight and after 10 years on SAR Standard American Raw, found it hard to maintain my weight and if I got busy or was no focussed, lost even more. I think it was a combination of shortage of vitamins and minerals because of low calories and food input, low absorption because of a lack of fiber from the fruit, and a lack of exercise. I have weighed as low as 118, now weigh around 130-135 easily. Some raw foodists are just too thin and are malnourished possibly. Our right weight is while being active if we are blessed enough to be mobile and not handicapped. More activity also gets things moving, blood which adds more oxygen to the brain which I know I can use, lymph which needs active pressure to circulate optimally etc. as I said, 35 years vegetarian, 11 traditional raw, this style one year. It is the right way to go. The key is high calories, low fat, low protein, high fruit, and lots and lots of greens. Additionally, I eat sprouts and sea veggies to maximize nutritional intake. It works. Swayze has it right. Her and Doug Graham 80 10 10, that is almost identical to what our ancestors in nature do too, no surprise. Nature is the key in all of this. We eat according to the ways of nature, and naturally find balance and homeostasis..

Karmyn Reply:

Harley is only offering that award to those who become OBESE on a fruit based raw diet. It’s almost impossible to become obese on that type of diet, hence the reward. Swayze was never obese.

I also gained weight eating unlimited fruit (I wrote about this back in 2009)–16lbs. When I started eating what I NEEDED to be SATISFIED I lost the weight I gained rather quickly.

heidi Reply:

thanks for the clarification karmyn
and
what exactly did you ‘need’ to eat that you weren’t eating exactly???

Congratulations, Swayze, You are a most beautiful and honest example of a raw foodist, so willing to share your experiences with such integrity which makes a big difference and inspiration to many. I’ve coached many overweight and underweight raw fooders. Eating a naturally “nourishing” raw diet with all the essential lifestyle choices gets us 80% there, but the mental and emotional factor is that last 20% that we need to address. Thanks for reveailing that. You are truly blessed and beautiful. Glow on!…. Eric

32 cherryberryblossom { 09.22.12 at 11:23 PM }

i found the more raw i was, the less i binged and purged. i was when i screwed up and ate cooked foods that i would revert back because i did no want to gain what i lost on raw. also. i did find that i used raw foods in an unhealthy way also. the same types of behaviours as cooked food. like eating fast, making alot so i dont run out, having to finish it all ect

33 TheVeganNurse { 09.24.12 at 3:37 PM }

BS. My boyfriend lost 20 pounds of FAT in 2 months eating upwards of 4000 calories a day from bananas and dates. He does little to no exercise. Stop saying fruit will make you fat…it WONT

34 Vegan Sue { 09.24.12 at 6:45 PM }

The comments indicating you can’t get fat eating fruit are wrong. Maybe they or a few people they know of didn’t get fat, but the basic equation is still calories in vs. calories out. I gained 20 pounds in 3 months eating tons of bananas and dates. Like you, I binge, and that weight gain has now caused me to restrict my calories to 1000-1300 per day while training for a half marathon and running 30 miles per week plus weight lifting. And then I binge again. I hope to someday break this cycle an

35 fruit4living { 09.25.12 at 7:52 AM }

I gained fat on fruit. I bought into the whole ‘smash it in’, eat all the fruit you want theory. I was exerciing 2 vigorous hours per day and eating as much bananas and dates as I could eat. Not only did I not lose the 10 lbs I wanted to lose when I started this diet, but I gained 10 more.

36 TheVeganNurse { 09.25.12 at 8:15 AM }

Again, no one is getting fat on fruit….Amazingly enough glycogen, water, and food actually have a weight, and when you stop on the scale it makes your weight go up!!! Incredible huh? I heard it’s all fat though..Every glass of water you drink and get on the scale to go up 2 pounds is Fat *facepalm*

37 fruit4living { 09.25.12 at 9:32 AM }

Right. And that’s why my fat % went up.

38 TheVeganNurse { 09.25.12 at 9:59 AM }

How did you measure it? Also when you start 80.10.10 your weight can go up a little bit as your body adjusts and heals. My mom is on 80.10.10 and gained 10 pounds of fat, but then plummeted and lost 40 pounds and is now skinny as hell eating 4000 calories+ a day with a light jog here and there

39 TheVeganNurse { 09.25.12 at 10:00 AM }

wow that’s anorexic….a marathon runner eating 1300 calories a day…failThis is why fitonraw pissed me off because now all the anorexics like you will flock to this video and think its ok to eat the same amount of calories as a baby

40 rawdmd50 { 09.26.12 at 9:01 PM }

Swayze, this was such a clear, concise and honest message. Right on the money! Thank you.

41 eszzze { 12.02.12 at 11:10 AM }

Thanks a lot for being honest. I went raw and most people that I followed were like “oh, you can’t gain weight on fruit, don’t worry, eat as many calories as you want!”. I’m going through the same you did… I took a break and ate whatever I wanted and of course gained weight but mentally I’ve changed a lot, I don’t feel like binging anymore which is amazing because I was doing it everyday, as many times as I could. I was getting so sick… My teeth now hurt all the time

42 eszzze { 12.02.12 at 11:13 AM }

And I can’t never feel full or satisfied from a meal. I feel fat and ugly but at least I’m not binging anymore, I don’t wake up afraid of what will happen today or how much I weight. When you said “Oh, there is more gram in the scale, my day is ruined!”, oh god, that’s me! Definitely not weighting myself all the time has made me freer. I just wish I can lose the weight I gained quickly and I hope I don’t choose to do it unhealthyly, that’s it… I know I need to be patient -_- it’s my punishment

45 Lauren Anderson { 12.09.12 at 10:57 AM }

I eat bananas, orange juice, and berries almost everyday, with some nuts every few days. Usually 2800 calories average. 80% of my meals are bananas and I lost 31lbs in 4 months of being raw. Bananas and high sugar fruit will never make you fat. FAT will. Like lots of nuts/avocados/oil.
