Thanks for the information! I’ve been meaning to try seaweed for years, but never got around to it. Now I know which one to buy, thanks!!

http://www.theseaweedman.com/ Maine Seaweed is excellent – Larch Hansen – he is super environment conscious – some of the Maine Seacoast Veggies come from Canada and are irradiated – Larch Hansen is a family run business – excellent water Northern Maine – I have seen it and harvested with him

Glad you like sea veggies, some natural hygiene people are against it but, I think it is a sourcing question and for sure, I would not not eat sea vegetables from the Gulf of Mexico or off the coast of Fukishima Japan, but Northern Maine up near Canada is good. Also, Mendocino CA (Mendocino Sea Vegetables) is another family run business with great people. Give them a call for items like Pacific sea palm frondswhich are excellent noodle like stuff.

thanks for the tip on hijiki and high arsenic, arame is good too. Wakame is also good often found in miso soup but is great raw. It is the most alkalizing food on the planet.

how would you describe the taste of dulse exactly now???? and how often do you use and how much at one time also and in what ways do you use also, and i didn’t see any dulse shaker bottles in my local whole foods store only these flat wide sheets, so not sure where i could acquire the dulse shaker bottles locally here now : /

Swayze Reply:

You really just have to try it for yourself. It’s definitely the least fishy of all the seaweeds.

You can order the shakers directly from them online (seaveg.com)

I think the condiment view is a great one to use with these types of foods. It can ensure you don’t overindulge in them. :)

It doesn’t seem like sea weed is a salt substitute as the salt on and in it is actually sea salt from dried sea water.
If I don’t rinse it I get what I call salted out . Like I can’t drink enough water.
I tried the dehydrated celery that you talked about thanks for the video.

I was more referring to dulse flakes, which aren’t really salty at all (only 35 mg per teaspoon). If you buy them whole, it’s best to rinse them before using.

I initially was trained in macrobiotics and seaweed is a big part of it. Now that I am a raw vegan, I still include some. I have also learned that arame and hijiki are not raw, but are cooked and then dried.

I like to consume some dulse and kelp, but not as much as I used to. I find that by eating enough sodium-rich foods – tomatoes, celery, spinach, etc – I don’t crave it as much. Maine Coast brand is excellent and they sell it in ziplock bags that are biodegradable and compostable and have the information on the bag with the nutrient content and what they test for to make sure their products are not tainted. The brand from Mendocino is good, as well.

Namaste!
Chef Mindy :-)

I am most pleased to see a new, youthful, enthusiastic advocate in the natural hygiene health world. Keep up the good work Swayze!

I have some once in awhile. We have a good source here in Brittany, France, with a company in Roscoff called Thalado. http://www.thalado.fr/
Sometimes I will munch a bite or two of what we call “haricot de mer” (sea bean) when at the beach, if there happens to be some.

i heard that if you eat a lot of seaweed it can cause cancer. is it true?

Joseph Lucier Reply:

Cancer is averse to alkalizing foods. Because of the rich alkalizing minerals in sea vegetables, they are beneficial in reducing cancer and promoting healthy physical environments and boosting the immune system and cell oxidation and reducing systemic stress. They are even used in macro-biotics as well as Ann Wigmore raw food styles for healing all diseases and have been show to have great results with healing. High fruit with lots of greens as Swayze promotes, is by far the best way to go, and getting extra minerals from sea vegetables, which are simply natural foods like apples and oranges, makes great sense. Swayze has it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are smart. Seaweeds provides iodine and also other minerals. Seaweeds are very important.
