Bananas Better Than Sports Drinks for Athletic Performance?

Researchers at Appalachian State University wanted to know which was better for athletic performance: bananas or sports drinks?

Alright good stuff Swayze. Lately during halftime of my soccer games I have been munching on 1-2 bananas and I just feel fueled up all game.

Bananas work great! Also use orange slices as well.

I eat 3 lbs of bananas a DAY. I am able to physically work hard labor without a problem.

Funny: I was just eating 2 bananas while watching this video.

Most sports drinks also contain chemicals. Chemicals are NOT our friends!

I wonder about the advisability of eating every 15 minutes during the effort. I think I would prefer to eat before and after. However, I am not an athlete. :-)

I usually eat dates while riding, just can’t figure out how to stuff 15+ bananas in my tiny jersey pockets. Any thoughts? Im sure a smoothie wouldn’t do, since the water in my bottles gets pretty warm and starts to taste funky.

Can you recommend a variety of fruit? I know cantelope is good. We kind of overdid the banana thing with my kids for tennis matches when they were younger. Now they would rather forgo the banana and have water or organic energy gels.

Go Bananas I love them. I use a trailer on my bike for fruit hauling it works good but it does add weight.
