[..YouTube..] great video! I was hoping you could talk a little bit more about how you deal with being raw on a plane! I just went to california and personally, I just make it happen, no matter what! but, I ate some unsweetened unsulfered mango but it didn’t make me feel my greatest! do you water fast for the day? do you just eat dried fruits? I know they don’t like a bunch of fruit on the plane!

[..YouTube..] Oranges and bananas all week here. Have about 5 gallons of fresh organic OJ +100 bananas. Good to go for 5 days

[..YouTube..] Never had a problem with bringing fruit on a plane. Carried a whole tote bag full of bananas and grapes last year that I just put under the seat with my purse. As long as it fits under the seat or overhead, they don’t care.

[..YouTube..] hmm it depends where you are traveling, some airlines definitely won’t allow you to bring fresh fruiit with you, but its great to hear you’ve had some good experiences :)

This is a no-brainer for me as I think this lifestyle is the easiest one to travel with.

I make up my mega banana smoothie with other fruit and citrus. It makes 12 cups! I drink that during the ride and have a wonderful salad or some vegie dipping sauce I make up with celery. YUMMM
And, of course, lots of water!

I get lots of breaks during my rides too to go to the little girls room. LOL

Thanks Swayze!

When I have to travel by plane, I find that if the fruit is cut up I’ve never had a problem. I just cut up apples, pineapple, strawberries and whatever else, I even put celery in the last time, put it all together in a zip-lock bag and I’m good to go. Of course I also take three or four bananas. I’ve been eating raw for about 12 years now, its been a process, and am loving it more and more! I never did like to cook so this is perfect.

I agree that traveling by car is fine, but traveling by plane when you do it 1-2 times a month is hard…really hard, especially if fruits and veggies are not easy to come by on the other end. I haven’t been able to make that work yet :( Do you have any tips for that?

Swayze Reply:

What exactly do you find difficult about it?

Courtney Reply:

Here are the problems:

* Not enough available ripe produce in some areas or not within reach (no mobility, such as no car). There’s only so much unripe produce my teeth will take before they revolt.
* Not being able to get and store greens (no fridge in hot places)
* Not able to carry around all the food when traveling (can’t take more than a couple meals on the plane), so after the first 2/3 of a day of traveling, I’m out of food but not at my destination.
* Not having a Vitamix, which means it takes a lot longer to eat enough greens, which is problematic when I am at the mercy of someone else’s schedule
* Not able to go more than 1-2 days without enough greens before cravings kick in seriously badly

Hope this clarifies things :)

How do you make it work, say, when you travel for multiple days at a time from hotel to hotel, plus hopping on flights? Do you eat dried fruit or do you fast, or eat some cooked carbs or pasteurized juice? I thought Freelee and Durianrider recently admitted that traveling like this was hard for them and so they occassionally drink pasteurized juice, etc., so I’m wondering how you find this particular type of travel much easier than they and I do. I’d love to know your secrets :) Or maybe when you travel, you always have friends/family to stay with on the other end and are less itinerant than I am? Just trying to figure out if/how I can do better.

Thanks so much!

Swayze Reply:

I definitely don’t travel like that so can’t help you much there. What I would probably do is carry as much fruit as I could, bring along a travel blender, use powdered greens if I couldn’t get enough fresh, and eat some cooked starches if I needed to.

Courtney Reply:

Thanks, Swayze. I’m going to keep working on this one.

Great video. My problem isn’t taking or finding fruit. It’s dealing with the result of needing to take more bathroom breaks, which is a bigger challenge when traveling (or leading lengthy meetings, as I do sometimes). Not thrilled about bananas, which would be low water content, so any other thoughts besides dates, dates, and more dates?

Swayze Reply:

Bananas are about 75% so definitely not low water content.
