I didn’t think I would be able to eat a high-raw diet because of all the fruit (I have sensitive teeth), but it’s been working surprisingly well for me. Smoothies are fantastic (especially for citrus), and I incorporate a lot of greens and almost no dried fruits. Not sure where dates fall on the spectrum of dried fruits, but they do tend to bother my teeth, so I eat them minimally. The dentist (and I) have had no complaints and I’ve been eating high-raw, high-fruit for four years. I hope that continues as I edge toward all-raw!
Also, you look beautiful and I love your shirt.

That’s wonderful, Kim! Thanks for sharing.
I consider dates (even fresh dates) dried fruit because they are concentrated, sticky, high in calories and relatively low in nutrients when compared to most fresh fruits and veggies. I might make a few meals of them (usually blended with orange juice, which is insanely delicious) during the fall/winter when fresh is in season, but otherwise I just use them as sweeteners in savory recipes.
And thank you so much for the lovely comment!

[..YouTube..] You have a knack of making a new video of the very topic I was just mulling over. Cheers for the latest tip. I gave up dried fruit a while back, but recently began dialing back on acid fruits. I read just a few days ago about someone who’d never had any cavities and then a year on raw foods and she had a mouth full of them. So, I want to be smart and avoid that. Your teeth look super healthy, so it’s easy to believe you. Thanks again for the help.

Swayze,
thank you on your video. It is an interesting angle that you were taken when looking at teeth damage on raw food.
How about citrus and teeth enamel damage that consumption of oranges and lemons may cause?
How about weakened overall health and the teeth damage originating from there? Numerous raw foodists are imbalanced. As you look at raw food blogs, majority offer abundance of dessert recipes. Little or none else. Too many raw foodists eat far too much of sweet food, so imbalances and weakened health are to be expected. Teeth damage can easily be related to that as well.
Regards,
Di

Citrus fruits are fine (make sure they’re ripe), but I wouldn’t eat them for every meal. That said, I do them just about everyday during the winter months.
You’re right, many raw foodists do eat too many fatty, sugary foods. This can definitely contribute to dental decay, as well as poor overall health.
I talk more about teeth health in an upcoming video so stay tuned!

G’day Swayze and all,
I’ve only just started (yes, a New Years Res.!).
I have noticed that my teeth feel a lot smoother than after a normal Eastern/Western diet brekky.
Funnily enough, I was just surmising last night if I still needed to brush with a High Raw diet!
I’m gradually working my way through my larder, but have given away all of my meat except what I feed the dogs. I still eat ‘normal’ vegetarian stuff at night (a fave is 2 minute noodles (stop shaking your head at me!) with Japanese mayo, tomatoes, cucumber and coriander (cilantro). Last night, however, I began to feel a bit sick eating it! Wow! I’m so very happy with that!).
Has anyone seen the doco, ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’? Fascinatin’!

[..YouTube..] What do you think about citrus fruits, lemons, limes, grapefruit, etc? Does the acid from citrus fruits really erode enamel? Also, are dates dried fruit? The edges of my two front teeth are transparent from store bought orange juice and excessive brushing. Please help!
[Reply]
[..YouTube..] @imperfectionKillz It can if left on the teeth, yes. That’s why it’s important to avoid too-tart citrus (good oranges are mostly sweet, slightly tart). Lemons and limes should be used sparingly (like juice from 1 lemon in a recipe), which most people do anyway.
[Reply]
[..YouTube..] @imperfectionKillz I consider dates dried, even when fresh, because they are very sticky and very high in calories. Therefore, I use them sparingly in recipes. The only time I will have a meal of them (usually blended with water/orange juice) is in the fall when tasty fresh come into season.

[..YouTube..] you mentioned “dried” nuts…but aren’t nuts naturally dry? Are these a different kind of nut? I buy raw cashews and almonds and roast them myself.
[Reply]
[..YouTube..] @fmbighair The kind you buy in the store are dried. The kind you hand-pick off a tree are not.
