How Can I Overcome Emotional Attachments to Food?
Let’s just get right to it, shall we?
Here’s this week’s fourth cravings question:
Question #4
How can I overcome emotional attachments to food?
Answer
We all have emotional attachments to food and there is nothing wrong with that. If we did not enjoy our food, then we would not eat and that would be a serious problem for obvious reasons.
Issues with having emotional connections to old food favorites only arise when you are:
- unhappy with your current diet and/or
- not eating enough calories.
Usually it is a combination of the two. It is very hard to be happy about sticking with only fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds (or any diet, really) when you are not getting enough fuel.
When you are physically satisfied on your current diet, you will notice that the emotional attachments to other foods just donʼt hold that much water.
In fact, you will actually be able to enjoy them for what they are, i.e. nice memories that you cannot nor no longer desire to replicate.
