4 Signs You Have Not Eaten Enough Fruit on a Raw Food Diet
What’s the most common question I receive about going raw and being fit, you ask?
That’s easy. The most common question I get is…
“How do I get rid of cravings?!”
Yep, it’s all about cooked food cravings, cravings for savory, salty, sugary, starchy, and fatty. You name it, I’ve heard it.
And no matter how many times I tell people to EAT MORE FRUIT, I still get the emails asking about cravings. I even wrote a whole book about cooked food cravings and yet I STILL got question after question about cravings!
I guess people just don’t believe things can really be that simple. Maybe my message just isn’t believable enough. ![]()
That’s okay, because I’m not the only one spouting the EAT MORE FRUIT mantra.
The following 4 guidelines are from Dr. Douglas Graham’s book Nutrition and Athletic Performance: A Handbook for Athletes and Fitness Enthusiasts…and he’s a DOCTOR!
#1: Searching for Something Sweet?
If you finish the meal and still want something sweet, you did not eat enough fruit at the start of the meal. In this instance, have more fresh fruit.
#2: Peckish for Some Potato?
If you finish the meal and still want something starchy, you did not eat enough fruit at the start of the meal. In this instance, have more fresh fruit.
#3: Nutty for Nuts and Seeds?
If you finish the meal and still want something heavy or rich, you did not eat enough fruit at the start of the meal. In this instance, have more fresh fruit.
#4: More Sweets?!
If you are craving refined sweets in between meals, you did not eat enough fresh fruit at the previous meal.
Bottom Line?
If you want to eat anything else after a meal, anything at all, you did not eat enough fruit. So go EAT MORE FRUIT! ![]()

Love your web cite Swayze! I have a lot of weight to lose and have been trying to go raw vegan for a while. Can I really eat that many bananas? I’ve heard that even on a calorie restricted low fat raw vegan diet too many bananas will interfere with weight loss.

Here’s a quote from Nutrition and Athletic Performance by Dr. Douglas Graham:
“Bananas are the perfect food for someone who wants to lose weight. They are nutritious, delicious, and almost everyone likes them. Unlike celery and other “diet” foods, bananas are extremely satiating. Bananas are richer than most other fruits, providing the nutrient density needed to ensure proper nutrition while supplying the volume required to result in satiation. Fully ripened, they cause virtually no digestive problems, yet they take longer to pass through the stomach than fruits that are higher in water content. This combination of qualities yields a full, contented feeling for hours after eating a meal of bananas.”
