Best of Raw 2009!

Best of Raw 2009If you didn’t know, the Best of Raw for 2009 is now up and running.  The nominees have already been established and it’s now time to vote on the winners.

To be honest, I didn’t know about this until yesterday, when I received an email about it from Connie at Naked Food Cafe.  I was intrigued because she mentioned that a good number of low fat raw vegans had been nominated.

I decided to check it out and to my surprise, almost every category featured at least one fruity raw foodist…except for “Favorite Raw Vegan Restaurant” and “Favorite Raw Vegan Chocolate Treat,” of course. ;)

The “Raw Vegan Athlete” category is particularly bursting with low-fat fruit goodness, as it features Douglas Graham, Harley Johnstone (aka “Durian Rider), Ashley Hamilton, Kathlene Leonard and Michael Arnstein.

As I’ve said before, the low fat raw vegan movement is really picking up steam and this just goes to show that there really is no better time than now to join in on the fruity raw fun.

But I have to be honest, that’s not the real reason I’m writing this post.

What’s the real reason?

I made it as one of the nominees!

Well, it’s actually this website, but still… ;)

If you check under both the “Best Raw Blog” AND “Best Raw Website” categories, you will find Fit On Raw as a nominee!

I have no idea who nominated the site, but whoever you are, leave some comments so I can thank you personally (or as “personal” as the interweb will allow)!

And to everyone else, don’t forget to visit BetofRaw.Net and cast your vote for your favorite fruit-filled raw foodists! :D

Go raw and be fit,

Swayze

P.S. I think I maxed out on fruit, smileys, and links in this post.

Very cool, Swayze! I like several of the low-fat raw sites (all of which you recommended, I believe) but yours is very dear to my heart, so I’ll be voting for it! :)

Awww, thanks Laurie! Whenever I don’t feel like writing a post, I just envision one of your heart-felt comments and I’m good to go. :D

VERY AWESOME! Swayze, just wanted to say that you are an inspiration and I’m SO glad I stumbled upon your blog! I just started transitioning to Raw vegan from an all vegan mostly cooked sugar free “candida” diet. Cept I was eating tons of raw fats…coconut milk, nut butter, seeds. Then I came “off” the no sugar and started eating fruit again and boy..not a pleasant experience with all the raw fats. SO. I knew I had to be doing something wrong that my body wasn’t liking, and EUREKA. Gone 80/10/10 and never looking back. However, I am concerned.

After a week of all fruit/tender greens I felt great, felt some detox, was sleeping super sound, but a week into it I found myself at a late night binge of a (vegan rice milk chocolate bar), 1/2 a container of almond butter, and cashews all at once after already eating a whole avocado that day. Why do you think that was? Withdrawal? Emotional? A combo? My “monthly visitor” was also coming 3 days later…maybe did my body NEED the extra fatty boost?

Also, I feel like I’ve been eating SO much. Bananas all day, eating whole 8 oz containers of dates at a time plus 4 bananas on top of green smoothies and copius amounts of other fruit, I find these two foods as my fruit “comfort foods”. Also, eating every like 2 hours, pretty large quantities. It’s good because I’m trying to gain weight..but I’m thinking it may have long term consequences if I continue to let myself be comforted by these foods. Any tips on how to deal? Should I be worried?

Also, do jalapeno peppers and hot/sour peppers count as fruits? Also, can i be eating too much fruit and not enough non-sweet fruits/greens? I feel great and my nails are super strong and hair is super shiny but I’m worried I’m eating too much sugar, I know it’s a misconception but it scares me a bit lol I don’t even like the taste of red and yellow bell peppers anymore…they used to taste good and sweet when I was eating a “no fruit” candida diet. Rather eat a banana. That scares me! Any advice? Anything to ease my fruit freaked mind?

Thanks!
Melissa

There are a whole host of reasons why we binge on food. In your case, since it sounds like you’ve got a grasp on the “eat more fruit” thing, it could certainly be emotional. Can you remember how you were feeling before you decided to eat the fatty fare? Were you stressed, anxious, lonely, sad, angry, etc.?

No, I don’t think you should be worried about the amount of food you are eating. In fact, it’s great that you are able to get enough calories in, as this is usually the most difficult part for most people.

As long as you are filling up on fruit and greens and not fat, you’re doing good. As I’ve said before, I ate A LOT of fruit in the beginning, but things calmed down after a few weeks. Just eat whenever you feel hungry and you will do just fine. :)

Swayze, apparently that website does NOT like me. I have tried to vote multiple times using two different browsers, but each time my computer freezes up completely and I have to reboot. Grrrr!!!

Success at last! That was the most FRUSTRATING thing – I went through that entire list at least 10 times before I was finally able to make the Submit button work. I was determined to vote for our girl, though, and I did. Twice!

Haha, glad you were able to. I know some others are having problems as well.
