Best of Fit On Raw for 2009
Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!
Since we are just hours away from entering the New Year – and the winners for the Best of Raw are being announced today – I thought it’d be a good idea to do a little post on the “best of” Fit On Raw posts for 2009.
If you didn’t know, I started Fit On Raw just 6 months ago in June. The feedback has been much greater than I expected. The site was even recently mentioned on 30BAD by Mr. Fruit Crusader himself, Harley Johnstone (aka Durian Rider)!
I can’t wait to see what the next year brings!
But I’m getting ahead of myself…
First, let’s take a look at the top 5 most popular posts of 2009, based on the # of comments:

Congrats on your nomination!
I actually had a question for you, though…You honestly don’t even have to answer this, but how has this diet effected your mensturation. I was reading this forum, and they were debating whether or not having a period was actually natural. In the Stone Age women had far less periods then we do now; I heard from a source. It wouldn’t make much sense if we were in the wild (nude, I presume) and just leaked. Gross, sorry. Others felt that we should celebrate our periods because of what they bring forth.
Just wanted to get your take on it. : )

Genevieve, I just read this and wanted to put my two cents in because ever since going low fat vegan raw, my cramps have disappeared. I used to have to take medication just to make it through the day since I teach and can’t stay in bed all day. Once I first started the low fat raw diet, they started to get a little lighter, and then about 6 months later, they went away.

Hi Genevieve (love, love, love your name!),
No problem, I’ll answer. I have not had a period (blood flow and cramps) for some time (a full year, perhaps?), but I still ovulate and menstruate. Typically, women switching to a low fat raw vegan diet will experience much less blood flow and the elimination of any pain, but some of us stop bleeding altogether.
If you’re interested, I suggest checking out The Physiological Enigma of Woman by Raymond Bernard. I think you can find it on amazon.
And if you want a few more “gory” details, feel free to email me at swayze@fitonraw.com

Thanks for the recommendation; I’ll be sure to check that out!
Hi Swayze, I’m so grateful that I met you on rawveganfitness and that you started this site. It has totally changed my life for the better! Good luck with the Best of Raw and I can’t wait for your recipe book. I wanted to submit something, but like you I’m pretty lazy with recipes and am still enjoying ones other people come up with! I’m also on day 8 of your cravings book and loving it! Wishing you lots of health, happiness, peace, and joy in the upcoming year.

Awww, thanks Marisa! I’m totally not expecting anything from Best of Raw, but it’s just nice to be nominated after only a few months on the web.
Congrats on Day 8! Let me know how the program works out for you.
Here is a recipe that I like that satisfies my desire to chew but also get my greens in other than in a smoothie.
Massage any kind of washed kale (I actually put in water with a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide to clean) with some mineral salt to soften the kale. Then toss with a raw sauce made of simply blended unsoaked sunflower seeds (1/2 cup), plus 1/2 cup of olive oil, 1/2 cup water, a little lemon juice and tamari mixed in (approx. 1/4 each). Add to that a clove of garlic. To spice it up I put a pinch of onion powder and cayenne. This sauce can be loose like a salad dressing or thicker for a “cheesier” consistency. In the winter months, I place the mixture on a cookie sheet and warm it slightly.

Wow, that’s a lot of nuts!

Oops! I probably should have mentioned that this amount of sauce for the kale serves about 10 people!!

Swayze, whenever I click on one of those links I get this error message:
404! Danger, Will Robinson!
Otherwise, I would have re-read all those articles. Anyone else have that problem?
OK, it must have been some kind of weird glitch, cause I refreshed the page and now the links are working.
