Are You Listening to the Right Raw Food Guru?

If you are new to the raw food movement, you might find all of the raw info scattered throughout the interweb rather overwhelming.  There are just so many ways to go and stay raw and so many different viewpoints held by raw food “gurus” of all walks of life…it can be downright frustrating!

It sure was for me!

Fellow fruit-lover Andrew Perlot at Raw Food Health has some really valuable advice on choosing the right raw food guru.  Here’s what he has to say about raw leaders that do not practice what they preach:

“It’s not at all uncommon to find raw gurus, who, upon being pressed, admit they’re not 100 percent raw. They sneak cooked meals here and there, and field all kinds of reasons as to why they do this.

If a particular raw diet isn’t good enough to keep its own advocate satisfied, you can bet there’s something wrong with it. Either the raw food diet is the best or it isn’t. There’s not a lot of room for waffling.”

I completely agree with Andrew.  When I first went raw, I was disheartened to find so many of the raw food leaders were not really raw foodists.  Some of them even believed (and still believe) that a raw food diet is not “complete” and must be supplemented with cooked foods!

I thought, “If this supposed master of raw foods can’t even stick to a raw food diet, how in the world can I?”

I became very doubtful of anything that came out of the raw food movement.  I began to think that it was impossible to be completely healthy and completely 100% raw.

Luckily for me, I discovered the low fat, high fruit raw vegan diet and have been healthy *and* raw ever since.
